The USSR is long gone, no more unlimited funds for military toys. They are even unable to complete the second An-225....

Peter your response sound like the one I would have written, not you Alert reading of the Spiegel Online article should have led to scepticism right from the start of the headline. The very first word means " alleged" (refering to the " Mega Transporter") and the article itself interprets the whole story as some kind of propaganda to divert attention from Russias real issues. I just wonder why SPON posted this at all, they once were known for reasonably reliable (while somewhat biased) journalism, but tend to add more and more tabloid content.

Ohhh well - I believe this is veeeeeeeeeeeery faaaaaaaaaaaaar from reality. There is literally nothing ready. Look for instance here www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/air-transport/2019-08-14/kremlin-invest-3-billion-35-tonne-turbofan-il-96-cr929And there is dozens of articles describing the misery. There are the sanctions i.e. they must develop ALL parts needed and frankly it is TOUGH. So the engine does not exist, the factory for it does not exist .... And what about the spare parts for such a thing - just remember the tiny SuperJet ?! How ever it looks nice in the picture
