They did a good job not to rush, and were careful to only open the exits that were away from the fire, safe ending could have been a disaster !

The most amazing thing I have seen in the footage is the female passenger not just with her had bag, but also her wheeled suitcase strolling along the runway ! My plane is on fire oh I must get my case out of the overhead locker

Holy smokes. When was the last time you saw a plane burning up with that much fire while it had passengers inside. Very fortunate that everyone managed to get out safely. And I'm not sure if it would have made it back to land safely if it happened a minute later when airborne. The most amazing thing I have seen in the footage is the female passenger not just with her had bag, but also her wheeled suitcase strolling along the runway ! My plane is on fire oh I must get my case out of the overhead locker If someone did that right in front of me, I wouldn't hesitate to manhandle the person aside and get ahead to the exit quickly.

My plane is on fire oh I must get my case out of the overhead locker Sadly this seems to happen in every emergency evacuation. Some more pics of the damage. As others have said, It's extremely fortunate that everyone got out ok and the fire was able to be controlled before it spread into the fuselage.

Last time I saw that much fire was the BritishAirtours B737 that burnt out 30 yrs ago or so at Manchester, then it did not go so well as they let the fire into the cabin and there were a lot of deaths that was an uncontained engine failure too. This time it looks from the pics/video like the engine failure was also uncontained, and that the fuselage / fuel lines / tank was punctured. The engines fire extinguisher probably coped with the engine, but not the fire at the wing root ?

Just heard the pilot was due to retire next week after 40 yrs of flying. May be he kept his best till the last, also he was treated for smoke inhalation, I guess doing the normal captain thing of doing a check of the cabin before getting out last of all.

Again a quiet hero, just read a short report where he's saying it wasn't 'just him' but the whole crew and the training they undergo to ensure passenger safety. Proud of them all! Then you get the people who decide that they can't possibly leave the duty free...............please!!! (Friend of mine who does psychology reckons it was an 'Automated response that was triggered by the sudden stress of evacuating the aircraft under duress, hence they automatically stood up and collected their hand luggage'.) Go figure......... (I've been on this aircraft about 2yrs ago, anyone think she'll fly again or is the damage too much?)

Good words, VIIO is no more RIP !
PS its parked very close to a few scrap yards, the right hand engine is now the most valuable part ? In the old days it would get repaired, re registered and go back into service, and only the hard core aircraft enthusiasts would know about it ! Not any more with the Internet / blogs / twitter etc etc
