China Eastern Airlines (MU), has signed "purchase agreement" with Boeing today (28th April) in Shanghai, for 15 B787-9 aircraft, to be delivered from 2018.
MU was one of the first Chinese airlines made that 60 B787 order with Boeing quite a few years back, then later cancelled the order (converted to 737s). After a few orders for A330, B777 and now even with A350, finally they become a B787 operator.

Funny, Order is booked as unindentified customer.

Yet another Asian LCC with a hell of a lot of aircraft on order. For an airline with a fleet of 31 aircraft, they already have 22 A320/A321ceos and 63 A320/A321neos on order and now there's this order for the MAX. Also makes little sense as a LCC to operate both the A320 and 737 family simultaneously.

Interesting article, thanks for the link.
One thing I'm wondering now, however, is where they get their numbers from: Airbus O&D spreadsheet from end of 2015 showed 6876 total delivered A320-family aircraft, and still 6581 in operation. Leaves 295 retired or otherwise taken out of the picture.
I imagine, Airbus marketing wants to have the "in operation" number as high as possible, and therefore might count differently than others. Still, since the numbers are quite different, I'd like to know the background, and how comparable the numbers they use are actually to the Boeing figures...

Still, since the numbers are quite different, I'd like to know the background, and how comparable the numbers they use are actually to the Boeing figures... The number 1164 is NONSENSE ! There is about 230 scraped frames - according to both planespotters and airfleets. There is another 36 "written off" frames. Than there is something below 250 frames stored but a lot are in the stage "planned". Less than half are ooold planes in very low MSNs just waiting to be scraped - but we have there a lot of high MSNs up to 7119 ! just waiting for some customer or other. To sum it up - there is for sure no more than 350 A320 family planes retired to never return ! The numbers for Boeing are also very different. If we would consider only relatively much younger NG there is about 1/4 the numbers of A320 family, but if we include the "classics" the number goes well over a thousand - but of course those are again older. So if the number would be other way round i.e. 1164 for B737 and 242 for A320 I would believe those numbers to be about correct. There is well over 250 of only 737-500 definitively out of operation + bit bellow 200 of 737-400 + over 600 737-300. OK some of those are stored but frankly how many would come to life ? I am pretty sure only very few if any at all !

Well, if an aircraft is retired from service, she may be stored, or parted out or destroyed. In the former case, she may be returned to some kind of service at any time, if her owner changes his mind or if she has a new owner. So, these are volatile data.

VietJet orders 100 of the high density 737 Max200 This is a great success for Boeing ! A huge deal with with an Airbus customer !
