This thread is intended for all discussions not centered on one specific aircraft family. Airbus is announcing a new organisation. The main intended move is to merge the parent company (Airbus group) and the main commercial aircraft subsidiary (Airbus) into a single commercial entity named Airbus. The 'helicopter' and 'defense and space' subsidiaries remain unchanged. The changes suggest that the power struggle that existed behind the scenes between Enders and Bregier has ended in favour of the former. Tom Enders is now in full control of Airbus, while Bregier loses his special position. Will he remain as a potential heir ? Is he about to leave ? I hope not ! The following link is in French, but it mentions a press release, which I did not immediately find. www.lesechos.fr/industrie-services/air-defense/0211346251857-airbus-group-fusionne-avec-airbus-commercial-2031558.php

As speculated already earlier Bregier will become the COO of the Airbus group. www.reuters.com/article/us-airbus-group-restructuring-idUSKCN1200LR

As speculated already earlier Bregier will become the COO of the Airbus group. Yes, he is relegated from CEO (commercial aircraft) to COO. Not to his liking, to be sure, since he loses the autonomy he enjoyed as CEO of the main line of business. I hope he accepted the change after receiving promises regarding a future succession.

Then why merging the commercial plane unit? One parent company that oversees multiple subsidiaries sounds more logical, no?

Then why merging the commercial plane unit? One parent company that oversees multiple subsidiaries sounds more logical, no? Obviously, to deprive Bregier of a relatively independant position. Airbus commercial aircraft was as important as, if not more important than, the Airbus group, so there was a sort of power sharing agreement. Enders now has full authority ...

Sounds like a lot of effort, why not simply removing Bregier from his CEO position once his contract has ended and make him COO?

Sounds like a lot of effort, why not simply removing Bregier from his CEO position once his contract has ended and make him COO? Corporate practice is based on manoeuvering. I doubt what you suggest would have been approved by the board, as it would have made the power struggle obvious. The change in structures allows everybody to spin the change as part of a 'cost-cutting' effort based on eliminating 'duplications' ... While it is a bare-knuckle fight. It is also possible that Bregier agreed to lose his position on the double condition of saving face (hence the change in structures) and being promised the N° 1 position within a certain time bracket.

The celebration of Airbus' 10 000th delivery (A359 MSN 54 to SQ) confirms Bregier is the biggest loser in Airbus' recent reshuffle. Up to the recent changes, such a celebration would have been led by him, not by Enders.
After JL's retirement, Enders will be the only Airbus public figure left. I don't think this is a change for the better.
