As in 2015 I filed as many technical issues that I have been able to find. My own observations plus those from you and EKsource and others have been very useful sources. The lack of information on Asiana and Korean flights might have flattered this list.
It comes as no surprise that as the biggest A380 operator Emirates had the most issues, but still I am surprised by the number of flights that went tech after arrival and before returning to Dubai.
Technical problems A380 2016:
January:
5: Emirates EDT as EK5, returned to Dubai after departure with gear issue. Fixed in time for same flight on Jan 6.
14: Qatar APF as QR832, unknown issue on arrival in Bangkok, returning to Doha on Jan 17.
19: British Airways XLEA as BA209, jammed into airbridge on arrival in Miami, engine change needed, returnflight on January 25.
February:
3: Qantas OQJ as QF2, technical issue in London, only repaired on February 5. Problem causing serious disruptions to flight schedule for three days, with QF2D taken over by OQF.
3: Emirates EEH, technical issue in Munich, unable to operate EK52. Left day later as EK52D.
10: Singapore SKC. Technical issue not confirmed, but SQ321 canceled and operated aa SQ321D on the 11th.
12: Emirates EEF. Damage to a wing after a tyre blow-out on landing in Melbourne as EK406. No details available, but needing long repairs. Returned to Dubai on Feb 28.
15: British Airways XLEA, unknown issue after arrival in Johannesburg on the 15th. Unable to operate BA56 that day. Returned to London on the 17th.
17: Emirates EEJ: unknown issue in Hong Kong, operating as EK385 HK-Bangkok-Dubai. Returned to Dubai on the 18th.
20: Emirates EDP, took off as EK412 to Auckland but returned to Dubai with what Emirates said was ‘maintenance issue’. Had been checked just two days before. Back in service Feb 25. EK412 taken over by EEO.
23: Emirates EOT, unknown issue in Düsselforf before EK56. Flight delayed until 24th.
26: Malaysia MNB, operating MH2 to London, shortly after take off reported issue on engine no. 1. After dumping fuel returned to Kuala Lumpur. Out of service for a few days. MH2D taken over day later by MNA.
26: Emirates EDQ, on landing as EK149 in Amsterdam seems to have suffered nose tyre blow out. Return flight dalyed 1h25 min, but no other problems.
March:
9: Qantas OQE, technical issue in London before operating QF10 to Melbourne. Back in action on the 10th.
11: Air France HPJJ, technical issue in Shanghai, returning the 14th.
13: British Airways XLEF, trolley struck water pipe in upper deck galley on BA56 Johannesburg-London, causing lots of flooding. Aircraft on the ground for 64 hours.
14: Malaysia Airlines MNA, diverted to Dubai on pilgrim flight from Jeddah. Apparantly with engine issue, but MAS reported ill passenger. Flight continued only on the 15th.
16: Emirates EDW, technical issue after landing in Shanghai. Returned to Dubai only on the 21st.
17: Emirates EDU, inflight cracked windshield as EK302 to Shanghai made her return to Dubai. EDX substituted for the flight.
26: Emirates EEE, technical issue in Shanghai, returning the 27th.
27: Qantas OQJ, APU issue after arrival in LA from Melbourne.
April:
5: Qantas OQJ, vibrating engine on QF9 Melbourne-Dubai. Diverted to Sydney, as OQL was available as spare to take over flight. OQJ resumed services on the 7th after engine change.
5: Emirates EDQ, possibly hydraulic issue with main gear before departure as EK150 from Amsterdam, flight 4 hours late.
16: Lufthansa AIMK, evening flight to Hong Kong delayed until next morning, reason unknown
22: Emirates EDC, diverted to Sri Lanka with technical issue during EK413 Sydney-Dubai, continued a few hours later.
26: Singapore SKK, unknown issue when already on the runway to depart Delhi as SQ403. Departed 4 hours late.
May:
4: Emirates EOQ, problem with hydraulic system en-route to Mauritius as EK703, returned to Dubai. Flight taken over by EDM.
4: Etihad APA, delayed return by a day from Sydney, not sure if it is technical issue.
5: Etihad APE, tech issue at Heathrow before departure of EY12. Flight cancelled, back home on May 6.
9: Emirates EEA, returned to Barcelona after take-off from Barcelona as EK186. Issue fixed, but EEA back to Dubai only late evening May 10. EEE did rescue service as EK186D.
12: Etihad APE, tech issue at Heathrow before departure of EY12, flight cancelled, just like May 5. Returned in the evening. Out of service until May 19.
15: China Southern B-6139, back in serrvice after tech check since May 4. On take-off from Guangzhou to Beijing had (nose)gear issue, dumped fuel and returned to Guangzhou.
16: Lufthansa AIMD, aborted take-off in Lufthansa en route to San Francisco, departed few hours later.
17: Emirates EDC, tech issue after arriving from New York in Milan as EK206, flight cancelled. EDC departed for Dubai on May 18.
18: Singapore SKP, apparent issue on engine #4 in Zürich before return home, flight cancelled until May 19.
23: Emirates EDL, issue on arrival at Heathrow, unable to operate EK6. Returned to Dubai on May 24.
27: Air France HPJI, on her way to Johannesburg as AF990, but returned to Paris when over Mediterranean after oil pressure dropped on unspecified engine. Flight taken over by HPJD on May 28. HPJI back in service on May 30.
June:
6: Singapore SKJ, unknown issue before operating SQ321, flight delayed until 6.50 pm on June 7.
11: British Airways XLEC, tech issue delayed departure at San Francisco on June 10 by 5 hours until early morning of the 11th.
July:
5: Emirates EOV, technical problem in Jeddah, EK804 cancelled. EEE did rescue mission.
12: Etihad APF, tech issue in Melbourne, delayed until next day.
18: Air France HPJH, tech issue on AF178 to Mexico City, flight delayed until 19th.
22: Emirates EDF, rejected take-off at Frankfurt on departure as EK48, flight continued day later.
August:
8: Emirates EUD, fuel leak in Birmingham ahead of EK40, returned to Dubai on the 10th.
20: Emirates EOX, inflight deployment of oxygen masks for unknown reason on EK147 to Amsterdam, aircraft returned to Dubai. Flight taken over by EOR.
23: Emirates EDQ, issue after arriving in Munich, returned on the 24th.
27: Emirates EOF, issue after arriving in LA, returned next day.
30: Emirates EOL, issue after arriving in LA, returned as delayed flight on Sept 1.
September:
27: Asiana HL-7626, returned to Los Angeles after take-off after fire alarm in cargo hold, faulty message. Departed next day.
October:
9: Emirates EUF, unknown issue on only her 2nd ever service, to Perth. Returned day later.
13: Etihad APA, returned to Abu Dhabi after take off for Sydney, delayd flight taken over by APB. Resumed service later that day after extra test flight.
15: Singapore SKD, hit by water truck in Zürich, minor damage but flight delayed until next day.
19: Emirates EEW, technical issue after arrival in Zürich as EK87, returning next day.
22: Emirates EDV, issue before departure to Amsterdam as EK147, substituted by EEE. EDV in service again next day.
30: Emirates EDH, issue before operating EK74, returned day later.
November:
2: Singapore SKJ, returned to Singapore after 1,5 hours in flight as SQ346 to Zurich with unknown issue, which was fixed in time to operate a flight the next evening. SKC took over to Zurich.
4: Emirates EDI, hydraulic actuator issue in fin after arriving as EK3 at Heathrow that needed repairs at BA, returned to Dubai on the 6th.
9: Emirates EDQ, failure of left main gear to deploy on approach to Dubai as EK4 from London Heathrow, due to hydraulic issue. Aircraft able to land after gear was lowered with alternative (gravtity assisted) system. EDQ checked immediately. Only back in service on the 17th to Gatwick. Issue investigated by UAE aviation authorities and Airbus. It identified problem with fractured wires on electrical system on landing gear, caused by load and fatigue. Inspection all A380's requested since.
10: China Southern B-6139, hit tug in Los Angeles, damage to nose gear area, returned to Guangzhou on 15th.
20: Emirates EDF, unknown issue at Paris as EK72, flight taken over by EOW, which was withdrawn from EK30 and flown from Heathrow to CdG.
20: Emirates EOK, fuel leak before departure as EK12 from Gatwick, flight cancelled, returned to Dubai on 21st.
29: Singapore SKJ, issue on engine number 4 made her divert to Dubai when on her way as SQ336 to Paris. Engine needed replacement and SKJ returned to Singapore on December 3. Stranded SQ336 taken over by SKH.
December:
6: Emirates EDZ, tech issue in Washington, returnflight EK232 cancelled. Left Washington on the 9th.
16: Lufthansa AIMI, tech issue in Houston, unable to operate flight home. Flew back to Frankfurt on December 19, but stopped in Manchester apparently for changing crew. Slide on Door 1 Left deployed on the ground, causing extra delay.
19: Emirates EDD, tech issue in New York, flight EK208 delayed until next day.
19: Emirates EOE, tech issue after arriving in Mumbai, flight unable to return. Aircraft flew back on the 22nd. EK501 was taken over by EUE. EOE was on her first flight since maintenance.
21: Emirates EEL, problem in Los Angeles kept her there until. Rescue mission by EEU on 23rd as EK218D.
21: Malaysia MND, opearting MH1 to KL when over Germany issue arose with one of the doors, loud noise indicating problem. No mentioning of loss cabin pressure. Flight returned to London, aicraft checked and departed again on the 22nd. Subsequently out of service for a few days.
22: Emirates EDX, tech issue after arriving in Hong Kong, unable to operate EK381. Rescue mission by EOT on the 22nd. EDX returned to Dubai on the 23rd.
25: Emirates EUD, on her way to Rome, when issue over Iran forced her to return to Dubai. EDX to over EK97. EUD back in service on 28th.
28: Qantas OQF, stranded in Dubai with tech issue after landing as QF2 from London, unable to continue to Sydney. Checked at Emirates. Returned to service on January 1 2017.
29: Malaysia MNF, fuel transfer issue forced pilgrim flight from Medina to land in Mumbai. After few hours continued to KL.
