Airbus will pursue the U.S. Air Force’s KC-135 recapitalization program on its own without prior partner Lockheed Martin, offering its A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) for the competition. Lockheed Martin announced Oct. 23 that it would not pursue the Air Force’s KC-135 replacement program following the release of a request for information (RFI) and requirements last month. Lockheed Martin and Airbus had teamed up on the LMXT, with Lockheed as the prime, first for the KC-Y bid and then for the KC-135 replacement. aviationweek.com/defense-space/aircraft-propulsion/lockheed-out-airbus-offering-a330-mrtt-usaf

More on the planning for an A330neo MRTT Quote Aviation Week - "...Much of the focus of the de-risking studies, says Maria Angeles Marti, Airbus Defense and Space’s head of tanker and derivatives, is around whether the Neo’s new wing can accommodate hose and drogue pods for refueling probe-equipped combat aircraft. “The wings [of the Neo] are a little more flexible and the engines are different, but this is one of the activities we are running today, and we have a high level of confidence,” Marti says. When the A330 was first developed in the 1980s and into the ’90s, it shared the same wing as the four-engine A340. Airbus was able to hang the hose-drogue unit from the pylon where an A340 outer engine would have been fitted. But that option does not exist on the re-winged A330neos......" A bit more detail on the above ^^^^^^ order. Quote CH Aviation - "The Canadian government will acquire nine A330-200(MRTT)s after signing a contract with Airbus Defense and Space for four new A330-200(MRTT)s and the conversion of five used A330-200s. The Royal Canadian Air Force (CFC, Winnipeg International) (RCAF) is expected to take delivery of the first in 2027. The multirole refuelling and transport aircraft will replace the three A310-300(MRTT)s (a.k.a CC-150 Polaris aircraft) the RCAF now uses to undertake air-to-air refuelling operations, military, personnel and cargo airlifts, medical evacuations, and the transportation of government VIPs. The government says the additional aircraft will strengthen Canada's continental defence capabilities....."
