Whats the "regional version"? How can one determine that? (sorry if this has been asked before) The regional version is a paper-derated version : the plane is certified with a lower MTOW than other versions, and its engines cannot use their full thrust, which requires a special software. A lower MTOW comes with lower airport charges, while less thrust means less engine wear, hence lower maintenance costs. Some fuel savings may also be achieved. Altogether, the regional version has a lower CASK/CASM. The aircraft is sold at a cheaper price by the manufacturer, but it can be returned to a regular version (= a regular software) later, for a significant fee.
