Some noob questions: 1. Who owns paint shops at remote locations like DNR, DRS, MST, CHR - Airbus or Others? 2. Which are the regular places that do painting in Europe for new builds? 3. Do the customer have a say in choosing location where their planes are painted?

DNR doesn't seem to me to be a very common place for plane-painting, is it new?.... I flew from there a few years ago to try the Trislander, looked to me to be a tiny airport in the almost middle of nowhere, have things changed there for the better?..

Do the customer have a say in choosing location where their planes are painted? I try to answer your 1st question (IGTFY). DNR is a large MRO site of Sabena. Sabena has also some painting facilities there. Sabena has also 3 paint shops in TLS, a 4th in construction. DRS is an MRO facility of EFW famous for P2F conversions and A380 wing fix and C3 checks, no paint. MST is MAAS, MAAS has not only a paint shop in MST, but 2 in XFW and the one in Mobile. CHR is ATE with 4 facilities and has 3 facilities in TLS. So as you see most of the paint facilities on the production sites are not owned by Airbus.

Occasional they also use Shannon (SNN) for painting.
I would assume the ideal place to paint is at the FAL airport area themselves, but if that’s full then I imagine it’s whenever there is space available. It’s also possible that companies like MAAS aviation has a special deal where Airbus builds get priority.

Do the customer have a say in choosing location where their planes are painted? 1 - I don't think these are Airbus paintshops ; I would guess they are contractor shops. At least DRS and CHR are regularly used by Airbus - CHR seems to have a comparatively small capacity, while I guess DRS is larger (anybody has better information ?). Until recently, I didn't notice new Airbus aircraft being sent to DNR or MST for painting, and I suppose these shops are being used now because Airbus seems to encounter a painting bottleneck. 2 - Airbus has extensive in-house painting facilities in both XFW and TLS. These shops process most of the workload. 3 - Usually, the customer would not interfere with production, which is the manufacturer's responsibility. Some customers, however, ask for some work (such as seat installation, full painting or just a final touch ...) to be performed in their own shops, and take delivery of an unpainted or not-fully-fitted-out aircraft. I suppose that they get a special discount from the manufacturer. EDIT : I just noticed that your post was duplicated in the 'A320 family - general discussion' thread, and that you received a detailed answer from Sciing. Perhaps the right thread would have been the 'paintshop' one.

I'm pretty sure this relevant for all Airbus models, not just the A320 Family The A330 gets occasionally ferried to CHR and the A350 to XFW for paint
