Qatar was not the launch customer. Below the dates for current orders:
Etihad Nov 17, 2013 Lufthansa Nov 17, 2013 Cathay Pacific Dec 20, 2013 Emirates Jul 08, 2014 Qatar <<< Jul 16, 2014 All Nippon Airways Jul 31, 2014 Undisclosed Jun 04, 2015 Qatar top-up Jun 15, 2015 Singapore Airlines Jun 19, 2017
In his thirst for "exclusives" the guy did not even check the Boeing website, it's all there.

It looks like the text has been replaced from 'the' launch customer to (now) 'a' launch customer. Still though, doesn't really make sense to say that.

It makes a lot of sense, in my opinion, though AAB didn't chose his words carefully ! You often have several launch customers, as all the customers who signed a conditional order at or before programme launch are considered as launch customers (= those whose orders allowed programme launch), and QR's and EK's orders were definitely decisive for 777X launch. What AAB means is that his airline - one of the 777X launch customers - isn't going to be the launch operator.

This is contradictory to AAB's statement a few posts above where he says they'll let a couple of airlines take it first and work out any bugs. At this point, is it clear at all who will be taking the first frame? EK? LH? QR?
