A litl misleading with only the link, it is in fact all about an hypothetically-wished B777XF. These are nice words to Boeing, but. Is it hopeful to get a non-yet-launched B777XF by 2025 only? Let's try to make the -9 into the air first, deliver it, mature it, then focus on the -8, and then maybe a freighter. Unless Boeing tries to make the freighter before the -8?

Boeing talking about a possible 778 deferment probably means the same for a possible 778-based freighter. QR must have been pushing Boeing without much success. As Boeing still needs 777F (and 77W) sales to keep the line humming through 779 delays, I don't think it would be wise to launch a freighter now.

IMO we see the end of the 777-8. If Qatar converts to 777-9, than there are only the 35 for Emirates left, and Emirates has talked about converting too and in that case to 787-10.
The sunrise project will be a shoo in for the A350-1000.
I anyway did not believe in 777-8X, similar payload to the 777F with less fuel burn. As fuel burn is not the same overriding concern for a dedicated freighter, the advantage of a 777-8 over a 777F is only slight. I assume the 777F continues to be build. If the 777-300ER to F is successful, that will come in the way of an eventual 777-9F high volume freighter.

It's not as clear-cut as you put it, but he does begin to talk about it.

IMO we see the end of the 777-8. Indeed, all those involved in the 778 project seem to be backtracking. Boeing may, however, introduce in the future a modified project and/or a freighter version. Emirates has talked about converting too and in that case to 787-10. I think EK talked about converting some 777X to 787s, but I am not sure they specifically mentioned the 778 - that may have been an assumption. I assume the 777F continues to be build. This implies that the vendors find it profitable to remain involved in 777F production. The numbers may be too small. If the 777-300ER to F is successful, that will come in the way of an eventual 777-9F high volume freighter. Airbus may at some point launch a A350-based freighter. I'm sure Boeing will do its best to prevent its competitor from breaking into the freighter market.

Is Simpleflying the only source for this?

So taken from the different sorces for the moment we have: 20 conversations from 777x to 778 F, (first time i see the freighter mentioned as 778F) plus 14 firm 778F orders, plus 16 778F options.
Did they convert all their ordereed 778 to 778F? Than we have a MOU for 25 Max10 and options for 25 more. I really wish for Boeing that when it is time to take delivery and make the payments that AAB is supplied with enough calmative agent.
Cross posting here for later reference.
