Although I think the A330neo in Emirates' colours looks really good, I'm still confused in how it'll fit in the fleet, after the failed A330ceo operations, back in the days.

I think it will be perfect for the less than 8h routes, EMEA and Asia. It sort of replaces the 787-10 MoU. I don't think the A330ceo failed at EK, they needed rapid capacity growth and so replacing the 330/340s with 77Ws made sense. Now is the time for optimisation and efficiency for EK and the A330neo will allow them to be more adaptable and efficient on shorter routes ( I see the 77L on DXB-LYS sometimes, makes no sense right? But EK has no choice).

I would disagree with the A330neo being completly out of the discussion. The point seems to be the engines. Did RR promise something, that they can not deliver? An increased thrust version? Long life in the sandy environment? Or does Emirates wants a longer trial period to be sure that the T7000 does not have the T1000 problems?
