That article is before the frame was grounded in the USA and I assume part of the fight against grounding. IMO both the FAA and the people that did not want to ground the 737MAX were breaching a cardinal rule regarding safe operation of equipment regarding accidents. When you do not know what is happening and you are not sure what is causing the accident, you stop operation. You have to be sure that equipment is safe to operate it. To say I have no proof that the equipment is unsafe, not knowing why an accident occurred, is breaching every safety philosophy I know about,

I can't believe it took President Donald Trump to initiate the common sense decision to ground the planes and not the actual experts at FAA! 🤦🤦🤦 Trump loves to communicate. I think he just decided to make his own announcement before the FAA, to draw some personal prestige from the decision.

But in this case I believe he saw the danger of the FAA keeping to not grounding the 737MAX. A third accident, and that in the USA perhaps, would have made the FAA completely untrustworthy and would have been a catastrophe for Boeing.

Q. If the Angle of Attack sensor can give false readings, should all MAX pilots be issued with a spirit level as back up 🤔 A spirit level won't measure angle of attack. A windsock perhaps, if the pilot held it out of the window. A spirit level will work as it measures the level or Angle of Attack, it's not to do with airspeed so no need for the windsock 😀

Two different things. - Aircraft pitch is the angle between the aircraft's long axis and the horizontal reference point, which can be done with a spirit level of course. - Angle of Attack concerns the angle at which the air meets the aircraft when it moves through the air. An aircraft could fly perpendicular to the ground and still have a zero degree AoA, e.g. fighter jets. Or an aircraft could fall almost wings level and still have a very high AoA, e.g. AF447. So a windsock could probably tell you which direction the air is moving against you.

I was originally trying a light hearted post to lift (pun intended) the mood 😀
