When the 787 will flying again? How much longer is that? It's anybody's guess ... Some time between May and October ? Or later ? It depends on the FAA and other regulators being satisfied by Boeins's proposed quick fix ... or not.

PS if there is a significant delay to 330 ETOPS does anyone know which airlines would have to drop orders due to their business models being blown out the water? I'd imagine Air NZ & QANTAS would be the biggest risks? If I recall rightly it was 180 ETOPS upwards that put the death knell on my (now 2nd) favourite passenger plane, the A340 (which I notice Norwegian Air Shuttle will be leasing 2 from TAP to cover the 787).

The 787-800 is supposed to allow airlines to profitably operate long and 'thin' routes . Therefore, this aircraft makes sense only if it is cleared for ETOPS 330. Before the grounding, the aircraft was only cleared for ETOPS 180, but Boeing's application for ETOPS 330 was under review, and customers had no reason to doubt that the application would eventually be accepted. If 787s were returned to flight but banned from flying in ETOPS conditions, ANA, JL, UAL and AI could resume domestic flights, but there would be little relief for LOT (except if they could use 787s on European flights instead of TATL) and maybe for LATAM (I do not know about Ethiopian). In any case, I would except most customers to postpone deliveries until the problem is fully solved. If ETOPS 180 were granted, we would be back where we were before the grounding, but customers might still be anxious about ETOPS 330. I do not know if all of them would accept deliveries ...

Regarding the production, even when they're cleared for flight again we can't expect a huge wave of deliveries, because most of the frames are stuck in the stage before first flight, right? Would they start outfitting before first flight because of these circumstances?

Don't forget that even if the FAA lifts the ban, they all have to be modified before they can return to service or be delivered!
