Qatar Airways is receiving 4 B787s this year 2013, and will take delivery of 4 in 2014, 2 in 2015, 5 in 2016 and 7 in 2017. Fabien I can't believe how Qatar Airways is shoving a 9 abreast layout into the 787 cabin while keeping the 777 9 abreast too. There is a 2 inch difference in seat width according to SeatGuru. Passengers who tried both are definitely going to feel letdown by the 787 experience.

Seems to be about corporate greed, more bums on seats = more money.......but then that's just the way I see it..

Although they had 10 abreast seating on the 777 at the start and it was so unpopular that they refitted the fleet with 9 across seating. I wonder if we might see a similar situation on their 787s where customers complain and they end up refitting with 8 across.

The addition of the wider A350 to the fleet might offer some relief. I think if BA does order the 777X, it will be 10 abreast as a 9 abreast one won't make economic sense to BA vs. the A350.

Wow, 9 abreast and still only 214 seats... Well, I guess if you're dedicating half the cabin area to premium seats, you need to squeeze in as many seats in cattle class.

I also expected that the airline with the award of "World's Best Airline" (Qatar) would not go 9 abreast in the 787, but those awards are not paying the fuel bills so it seems.

Ok, just to get an idea of where we are stand, we'll draw a list of 787 operators with their economy configurations... ANA - 8/9 JAL - 8 LOT - 9 AI - 9 UA - 9 QR - 9 BA - 9 ...fill in or correct this list for me, if you can.

I believe only ANA and JAL have a few frames with 8 abreast in Y.
