An additional issue is that ejectable black boxes might lead to more cases where the wreck is found, not the FDR/CVR. The risk would prompt regulators to make redundant equipment mandatory, increasing costs.

The risk would prompt regulators to make redundant equipment mandatory, increasing costs. The fixed FDRs will still be there untouched. These deployable FDRs are an addition to those. Of course there's a cost attached to it, but I still think it is cheaper than any other alternative that would help locate a crash site quickly. It should provide good enough data to start preliminary investigations early until the main FDRs are found, very important to determine quickly if there's an inherent risk to other flights - think AF447 if they hadn't subscribed to ACARS reporting. Also in the case the main FDRs are destroyed or its data unrecoverable - which has happened quite a few times, you still have the deployable one to work with as it will be released away from the final crash point.

Could there be both installed, ejectable and regular ones?...

Could there be both installed, ejectable and regular ones?... As mentioned in my previous post, that's the plan. The regular FDR/CVR will still be there, but I think there will be some modifications like the extension of the pinger battery life. The ejectable one will be a combined FDR/CVR and ELT and will be made available in addition to those.

NTSB: Planes should have technologies so they can be foundSome of the suggestions by the board: Of course, it's not necessary to have everything mentioned above given how costly that will be. IMHO, tamper resistant transmitters and ejectable black boxes with long lasting batteries should suffice. Video recorders are an interesting concept but I don't think it is something the pilot unions will be happy about.

Great find, thanks a lot. Looks like it works very well, only problem is if I am a ground handler and I put the device in the plane not the bag

Great find, thanks a lot. Looks like it works very well, only problem is if I am a ground handler and I put the device in the plane not the bag The blast-resistant shell would protect the whole baggage hold - the only place baggage handlers have access to. The technology could be dodged by placing the bomb in the cabin or the cockpit, but only cleaners could do that, and the bomb might be spotted by the crew.
