I flew LHR to Toronto and back the end of September on BA. (ZBJA there, ZBJC back) I thought the interior reasonably quiet and liked the IFE. I thought the economy window seat was cramped (17.5 inches)with not a lot of elbow room and would not recommend. I flew economy plus on the way back overnight and the window seat (12K) was great (18.5 inches) well worth the extra cost. The main meals were better than I have had in the past and piping hot. Breakfast muffin though...Whats that about! JT Which airline was it ? BA ?

Thanks for your report julytourist! As I mentionned a few times already, I had only one time a flight with B787 (HND-UBE) and what I remember was that I had found it sooo loud, but according to some other reports (yours included), I guess I should try it again see the noise level again... Fabien

I was on the Warsaw - Toronto flight on 26.12.13 in the first row of the economy class, so very close to the engines. I was amazed how silent it was during takeoff. I have to say though, that I am used to short range flights, mostly with A319-A321. All 3 monitores for the first economy row (on the "walls", not the personal ones) were not working and during the whole flight there was a high frequency sound, which made sleeping more or less impossible for me. I had to wear headphones with music on to drown it out.
My first B788 flight was with SP-LRB, my second flight will be on the 19.01. from Toronto back to Warsaw, continuing to Vienna.

Fabien I haven't flown on either A380 or 787, but in all fairness, noise levels in the cabin need to be compared at comparable points in the cabin, like in front of the engines or behind, over the wings etc. Any airplane is always going to be more noisy behind the engines than in front, especially in cruise flight. From what I hear, the A346 was always described as quieter than the 77W, whether that's true or not I cannot say, I haven't flown on any of those either.. but it does make sense

In fact all my A380 experiences were at the rear of the cabin (either main or upper deck), and the flight I had with the B787 was also at the rear of the cabin,... Fabien

The difference is so huge you don't need to take any measurements... Haven't flown on the 787 so cannot comment about that. (Sorry, maybe the wrong thread to point this out )

So I flew back now from YYZ to WAW on SP-LRA sitting right over the wing. One day before that I flew Punta Cana to Toronto in an A310 and I must say the noise level is about the same! As mentioned before there was this high frequency sound that made sleeping difficult, I heard it again but way more silent, so I guess it must originate somewhere around row 7. It also shows that it is not just a problem of one aircraft.

Flew LHR-EWR on G-ZBJE. High pitched sound was prevalent during take off and landing - specifically any time the high lift devices were in use. The rest of the time I noticed a slight sound that was easily blocked with headphones.
Really liked the electrically dimming windows.
Really noticed the increased humidity and cabin pressure. Felt a lot more refreshed on landing than I usually do on a long haul flight.
Also... the wing flex is amazing! Has to be seen to be believed.
