And do we believe such a thing ? NONSENSE ! Not necessarily. I cannot read behind the paywall, but this is probably about Amedeo group's already owned aircraft (there are a few of them), not about its elusive order. Like all A380 owners or managers, Amedeo must be concerned by end-of-lease returns and market opportunities for used A380s. They may think they could follow HiFly's example ...

I could read the article, using the following link. www.ft.com/content/cb8209ec-cd19-11e7-b781-794ce08b24dcAmedeo talks about applying for an air operator's licence next year, and to offer seats to existing carriers or to new entrants (such as Airbnb). Such an operation would probably use second-hand frames, in my opinion. Whether this bold idea has a chance to materialise is an obvious question ...

It can't be wrong to think about bold new ideas. However the chances to see this happen look not certain to me today. If an idea like this kicks off a lower risk platform like some A330 or 767 would be the size to start with.
In the future I can in fact imagine that leasing companies become airlines and rent out cabin segments to several customers. Like a mall with different shops you might have some burger king travel section, one harrod's and maybe some Ibis and such onboard. These guys don't want the technical pains of operating an airplane they just market them to the masses.

That's exactly what Lapidus is saying. He suggests that airlines reserve blocks of seats on aircraft operated by a third party, as tour operators are doing. Would they still be airlines if they did, though ?

"It claims that Airbus’s plan to discontinue A380 deliveries will have “positive implications” for future values of the fleet, particularly those with Emirates."
I particularly agree with this point when I saw the news this morning. Stop production will maintain the value of the current fleet, EK may not retire many frames, and second hand market are protected.
