IIRC it is where the escape slide will be fitted. In the older form it was mentioned that the slide is fitted in XFW not sure if this is correct. If someone can confirm. Also, how the frame is allowed to fly without slide even it is just carrying the test crew? Perhaps they have the slides installed at the doors nearest to the cockpit.

One of the steps before painting, at XFW, is removal of all escapes slides, so I don't think they would put them on once arrived at XFW, to take them off before painting, as usually the painting is done after outfitting... I think all escapes slides must be hence installed at TLS?.. Fabien

Has this jet been painted prior to outfitting? There was a discussion about the fact the slides had been removed and that is a sign of the aircraft being prepped for painting.
