This is simply earth-shattering news to us football fans. Long overdue, and I thought it would never happen. I hope that this is start of FIFA's corruption scandals clean up. I must be a pessimist. I see management changes in sports organisations as introducing new beneficiaries rather than cleaning up anything. There are in my opinion two reasons to this : the first one is that Switzerland usually refrains from interfering (this time Americans forced them to act), leaving sports organisations immune from any oversight ; the second one is that everybody in football earns such huge incomes that if you don't you probably feel you are an idiot. The best way to get rid of the problem would be to deprive sports of any IP (= TV diffusion) rights, making wages collapse. Play would not be any worse.

His resignation is certainly positive news. But given how the elections went, and that he won the presidency after all the firestorm, I'm a bit wary of whether the FIFA organisation will find the right replacement... One of the changes I hope they bring to their governance is to put term limits on the presidency. I can't believe how one person could be allowed to rule the world's biggest sport for almost 2 decades. Football isn't the only sport out there, however, that had such a long serving boss. Look how badly F1 racing has deteriorated under Bernie Ecclestone... Don't get me started on F1 please !!!!!

Great picture and story. Thanks for sharing. It reminded me of this cool picture I came across a few months ago. I know it's cricket in a football thread but they're quite similar pics, so... A couple more... And this is particularly amusing. A plane in the tree??? You can find more on google images, if you search with keywords "Queenstown, cricket, aircraft."
