We could then assume that certification for Europe could also be dropped later on?....

Good to finally see the first delivery but this aircraft seems to be too small, too heavy and outdated already. The C919 is way more promising especially as orders for it can be centrally ordered by the government. Just look at China's domestic market. It is beyound huge and growing.

The C919 is way more promising especially as orders for it can be centrally ordered by the government. It's not so simple. The government is influential, it can incite companies (especially lessors) to order the aircraft, but it cannot order aircraft that airlines do not want, or force them to order it. This is going to be a subtle play ...

I don't think you can consider the ARJ21 project isolated. To produce an aircraft, a huge industrial complex with enormous logistics is required, and that can't be started up just like that. I think, the ARJ21 is mainly a downsized copy of the outdated MD-90, and being used by the Chinese as a test object to establish the necessary "aircraft-production-infrastructure" - with the long-term goal to be able to compete with Airbus and Boeing on the market for larger aircraft. I don't think the ARJ21 was ever intended to be profitable. And from what I read about the development of the C919, the scheme paid off already - the C919 development seemed to go a lot smoother. I think, they're on the right track!

AFAIK all airplanes in China are centrally ordered by some state supplies holding and only afterwards distributed to individual airlines.
