Here's an add that will leave TAP fans sad ... These are to be the last rotations of TAP's A340-312s ; - CS-TOA TP 011/TP012 LIS-REC-LIS from 29.09 (TP 012 arrivig at LIS at 10h00 LT from 30.09), - CS-TOB tP 283/TP 284 LIS-MPMLIs from 26 & 27.10 (TP 284 arriving at LIS 18h05 LT from 27.10), - CS-TOC TP 287/TP 286 LIS-LAD-LIS from 26 & 27.10 (TP 286 arriving at LIS 06h10 LT from 27.10), .. CS-TOD TP 075/TP 074 LIS-GIG-LIS from 30.09-01.10 (TP 074 arriving LIS 05h20 LT from 01.10) After these dates, no more flights are assigned It was expected - as TAP has now so many brand new 339s - why should those gas-guzers continue ? Indeed they're not economical to operate in comparison with all the A339s (worthy successors), but it has been a long way with them, almost 26 years. Let us see if one of them deserves a place in a museum

It looks like Surinam Airways ditched their A340 as well citing the multiple technical issues as the reason. They have been leasing in capacity from Maleth-Aero (A346) and Wamos Air (A330) and will likely do so until their "new" B777 arrives. //Edit: This will also mean the end of scheduled A340 services at Schiphol (AMS) after Cathay Pacific, China Airlines upgraded their A340 to A350 and/or B777 and Air Mauritius' discontinuation of the MRU-AMS-MRU route.

Maybe stored Thai a340 will return to service? That's a dubious proposition, in my opinion. Whatever the configuration, economics would be extremely challenging. Is it worth investing in new interiors for that aircraft ?

Is it worth investing in new interiors for that aircraft ? Some airlines kept 747-400 going. Using a A340-600 can hardly be less sensible.
