No surprises re the A330 at the Airbus press conference today.
Airbus remain committed to introducing the Regional and 242t variants in 2015.
Big push on to sell the A330 regional to China.
209 A330s delivered in the past two years with net orders of 121 at that rate with a current orderbook of 267 the A330 should be in production for at least another 6 years.
The A350-800 is delayed indefinitely as Airbus will prioritise production of the -900 and eventually the -1000.
Airbus has not ruled out the A330neo which is being pushed by engine suppliers and some airlines.
Airbus must be hoping that the neo story does not stop airlines ordering the current A330 !!

Airbus also said that an A330neo is not in their short term plans.
I did not understand that the A350-800 was "delayed indefinitely". Airbus said that they have come up with a new project of a slightly longer aircraft, and have opened discussions with their customers. Of course, the changes would also justify a different timeline.

I see it as forget the -800 and put the -1100 onto the drawing boards

I see it as forget the -800 and put the -1100 onto the drawing boards I cannot disagree more. Airbus has to make plans to address in the future the very important 200/300 seats market segment, and they made it clear that they intend to use some A350 derivative. They just want to complete the -1000 development first. The 400 + market is probably smaller (it's new and, apart from Gulf carriers' interest, nobody knows its size!) and they have time to see what they do. Long before launching an A350-1100, they would be talking to airlines about it. Presently, they talk about the -800.

We will see.... you might be right, but I still can hardly imagine the 350-800 to come out in next 4-5 years. I agree with you that the 200-250 segment is VERY important however I do not believe the -800 is the solution, it is too wide, too expensive.....simply too much of a plane for the task. We might see the 330NEO, we might see a new bird, we might see upgraded 321NEO for longer routes, who knows

I hope information provided to customers by Airbus is less conflicting than what we can read in the press !

Thought the quote from John Leahy was pretty clear. Airbus will want to decide soon whether to go ahead with the A330neo so they can get on with selling the variants ( Regional and HGW ) that they are committed to.

Geoff Any statement on this subject by Airbus, other than the announcement of a program launch, will be dismissed by aviation enthusiasts as misleading ...
