Another program milestone ! Hopefully, the XWB-97 will be a great Rolls-Royce achievement ! Well it hasn't got nearly as much commonality with the -900 or 84k version as Rolls-Royce wanted, since they had to keep the fan diameter the same. It does retain >80% commonality and that's still more than having a GEnx and GE9x in your fleet for instance. [/quote] I had heard it was around 40%....

According to Tim Clark, the A380neo engine might find its way on the A350-1000, providing some commonality between the A380 and the largest member of the A350. I didn't quite get that bit. They are completely different thrust classes and would also further reduce the commonality between the A350-900 and the -1000. Or are they looking at a lower MTOW regional -1000 variant?

Or are they looking at a lower MTOW regional -1000 variant? An alternative variant they would like Airbus to build ? Possibly explaining why they cancelled they existing A350 order and yet invited Airbus to compete vs the 787-10 in an upcoming RFP ? Interesting ...

I assume there is some parts missing in that story, and what it should say is that elements of the engine for the A350-100 will find it way to a potential A380neo. Similar as RR has adopted several improvement from the TrentXWB into other engines in the Trent family
