Hi all, I want to buy a civil aircraft identification book, so I can learn the difference between a 777 and a 330 for example, or the 787 and 350 etc etc. So it needs to be up to date and in English...... I am not a spotter, honest....... but I would like some help! Do you have any recommendations? is there a 'bible' that people buy?? Many thanks, JT

I really don't know if any such books still exist apart from second hand... Why don't you start online like this one: AircraftRecognition.co.uk

A good place to start. But not very detailed isn't it? I think an aviation enthusiast will pick up how to tell aircraft apart over time by looking at different pictures. It didn't take too long for me to learn it all. To the OP: If you would like to learn more, I'm up for sharing tips in this thread. Where do you want to begin?

Got 16/20. I had no idea what the little planes were and two of them were blind guesses. I can identify any large aircraft (Airbus, Boeing, Lockheed, McD), some BBD and EMB, and a few vintage stuff.

wow so cool, thanks Jkkw!! I got 89 out of 100, hardest ones indeed are the business jets, Russian planes, and pictures of cockpits... (also got zooms on engines and gears and just seats ) I'd be curious to see the score Tim Clark would get...

I just did the 100 pic quiz and got 80/100 (or 80% like my first try). As before, I didn't know most of the light aircraft and some were guesswork and involved a bit of deductive reasoning. Did you not get any hot air balloons, lol? I had no idea what they were and they all looked the same to me. I also got a picture of some mangled wreckage that I still don't know if it was a helicopter or a plane! That was virtually impossible!

No hot air balloons or wreckages I was lucky though I think, not too many difficult stuff and not too many very old planes... I'd try again soon I'd just hope I'd get as much as you (80).. julytourist, have you tried the test? I'd be curious to see if the board makes you somehow make some progress

Guys, I'd like to see everyone try the 100 quiz and post their scores here. Let's see who's the top aviation geek around here!

Strange quiz: I got one with no picture at all, one with just a wingtip through a window and then one with a "solution" I/III ??
