A swap to A321neo from A320neo is common. As an A321 LR is just an A321neo with additional removable ACTs, I don't see what's remarkable in ANA's decision.

It's very striking looking at the increased weight and engine thrust required for essentially 6 more passengers and an extra aisle. Yes I'd like a greater feeling of spaciousness for a long-haul flight (love the blended SciFi-like wing that's been drawn for 20 yrs but still for making) but looking at this paper comparison the attraction for the airlines of the A321neo versions is obvious and underlines an interesting factor when considering the design of the next (if ever) Boeing NMA - wide-body or not?

From what I understand, Air Senegal will get two A321LR on lease, with delivery starting in Q2 2020 already
