Doesn't the 757 share the same cockpit layout as the 767? Perhaps it was made that way to fit. Passenger windows are obviously never at the widest part of the fuselage and sit a bit higher from the floor.

Yes they do and if I remember correctly there is a step down into the 757 cockpit and a step up into the 767 although I've never actually realised how much that effected the 757's cockpit height.

Can't say I've noticed too much until now. Speaking from personal experience, the doors on 757s are a pain in the ass to open/close because they're so heavy.

There's almost nothing worse than hearing/knowing an aircraft flypast without being able to see it (believe it or not, sometimes we get enough clouds for that to happen! ). At least there are quite a few 757s operating in the UK, all I get is a single DHL 757 which is only in the country at night except for a single day flight on Saturdays. Picture taken last year. I think quite a lot especially with this one as it has so many different colours. I guess with this livery they got some out of house 'airbruchers' in that painted themselves rather than from a plan that was made before. Here's a video of the aircraft being painted. And the aircraft's cabin lighting actually simulates the northern lights!
