That is exactly what I was thinking looking at the charts...flame out on one colour (purple I think), fuel shut off on another (green)...this is what happened at East Midlands in the 80s. Whatever the reason it is very sad, RIP. :-( EDIT - BBC & Sky News saying that second engine went idle & that the pilot tried desperately to restart to gain some thrust to lift the aircraft...as this wasn't working he perhaps headed for the river as the bets landing site with no thrust/power. It's starting to look like the pilots had shut down the wrong engine.

East Midlands was the first thing I thought of too. And indeed, ditching in the river was the best chance for survivors. Looks like the investigations are proceeding rather quickly with immediate public release of data.
