AirCanada's first statement on twitter read like this: "Confirms AC624, YYZ-YHZ exited runway upon landing at Halifax. All passengers have deplaned, going to terminal." Quite euphemistic. Somehow I always assumed exiting the runway after landing was normal procedure at most airports...

I'm thankful that all passengers in this accident were safe despite the brutal beating the aircraft seems to have taken. There are some more pictures and description on avherald about the accident. I'm really amazed by how the fuselage stayed intact and did not break apart despite landing well short of the runway and climbing over that embankment at that approach speed.

Unusual extreme low approach in bad weather. Should not be possible if flight went according to procedures.

Well, it looks like they slammed first into that pile of dirt. Fortunately there seems to be enough snow there to cushion some of the impact. From Avherald
