This might though mean the end of the dreamed A330neo for Indigo.... The A330neo for Indigo was anyway a dream. The A321neoXLR is I assume the correct answer for Indigo, for medium to long haul.

Not even Southwest has that many aircraft on order! 730 includes already delivered ones ? Southwest has some 270 on order with an existing fleet size of 700+. Indigo has a fleet size of 247 and an order book of 670+ aircraft. Mind-boggling isn't it?

The main difference is the economic environment, especially the rate of growth in Indian air transport. Indigo also can gain market share versus weak competitors whereas SW operates in a less moving context. From another angle, huge existing backlogs drive airlines to order aircraft many years in advance. As a consequence, contracts tend to become more flexible since no company knows for sure its needs ten years in advance.
