The reply from Airbus came within 1,5 hour. AB need to be on top of forums / social media / press etc to make sure this issue does not effect confidence in the A380 ! Indeed. No other media have picked up the story so far. I guess they don't browse the EASA AD-site.

EASA issued an updated AD on December 16. Compared to the first version they now say an 'improper aluminium alloy was used to manufcature several structural parts installed in cabin and cargo compartments'. Affected are now 9 parts in the cargo area and 21 parts in the cabin area. All need inspection and replacement no later than 6 years after entry into service. The AD becomes effective an December 30 2015. More important: the full list now comprises 114 A380's: MSN030, 35,36, 39, 42, 44, 46, 48, 49, 52, 54-59, 61-90, 92-96, 98-101, 103, 105-117, 119-128, 130-159, 161-164 and 166.

Very interesting, it seems this issue affects frames that were in production from much earlier times to lately-times..... skipping frames that I can't see any correlation in between (could have been all frames for one airline? but it isn't... could have been all frames produced after or before a certain date? but it isn't.....)

A lot of the skipped frames are frames not built, so the parts would then have been used on the next frame(s) in sequence

Some of the unique parts are built in batches, you don't construct one then wait two weeks and re set up to make the next one, you set up and construct 20 or even 30 at a time then store them. Then you re set up and build a different part etc etc. They will all be bar coded so you know which batch they came from, then if you find a problem with one you know the batch or batches to investigate etc

Indeed there is hardly any logic in the sequence, except that up to 2009 and MSN030 there was no issue. Interestingly the draft AD in November said it had to do with parts manufactured between 2011-2013. The final AD doesn't mention any dates. Also missing now is that they are structural parts. Deleted too is the cause of the problem: improper heat treatment has become improper aluminium alloy. Here is the link to the document: ad.easa.europa.eu/ad/2015-0236
