Emirates ends BNE and Mel to AKL from March next year. From then, the only trans Tasman operations will be Sydney to Christchurch

Not a long route for a long range aircraft. We can guess that EK will be using frames that otherwise would be sitting in Dubai for some time between two longer flights.

Before the QTR crisis there was a daily DXB-DOH with A380, may Emirates want to replace that one with a daily DXB-BAH eventually?..
