At least, AAB said he would. Perhaps he can, since Boeing must be offering to fund the deal. Does it make sense in the present circumstances ?

I believe there two would come from lease company, not brand new and for short term lease only. This is an emergency measure to deal with the current circumstances. I do not believe a word from AAB.

No professional lessor would accept to take part in a 748 deal, Boeing has to do the funding. If it is a short term deal, I doubt Boeing would offer a new frame, so that only a sub-lease from an existing 748F operator is possible. If however this is a step to remedy the border closing, then the Qatar government must somehow be involved.

Personally I think Qatar is trying to influence USA government and specially Mr Trump to stay neutral in their spat with other Gulf countries by these orders from Boeing

These orders (if they happen) are comparatively small ... But you might be right, cancelling some Airbuses could be a political signal.

I can't see a clear message that EK is buying 787. Until a order has confirmed I think all are rumors

It's interesting that the article appears citing an 'analyst' as their source not long after a self called 'analyst' posted the following article. www.strategicaeroresearch.com/2017/07/17/done-deal-emirates-selects-787s-over-a350s/Keep in mind my comment about the quality of the above 'analysis' when the above article first appeared on the board yesterday. a380.boards.net/post/96363/threadEK may very well have decided for the 787 (or against it, either way it wouldn't surprise me) but given the lack of certainty and credibility over potential sources, I'm dismissive of such claims at this stage.

This has been flying round the web for a while and is fake news I'm afraid.
