I was on board NA922VA on VX2 dca-sfo yesterday indeed, great!!
So as anyone knows I'm usually interested in any kind of new plane / new type I haven't been on before... This time was the perfect time to choose the A321neo, that recently entered service, and not too far from where I live...
Imagining the trip and travelling standby, checkin flights and loads days-ahead, where to go (VX1 SFO-DCA, VX2 DCA-SFO, which day?..).
Eventually things looked well for a trip on VX002 from DCA to SFO, also liking to try different airports, greyhound is booked from Harrisburg,PA-MDT to DCA.
Things went easy, smooth, as planned, and so then sadly came to an end as quickly as they started life.
I had planned 4 days off for this adventure,
starting Monday 12 until Thursday 15, 4 days OFF work. Trip started on one of the red-eye flights from Alberta to Toronto, AC176. Lucky me and/or kindness of co-workers who could bring me a window. 16A. Nice, thanks again!
Arrival at YYZ,
quickly run into internet to rererereRErererecheck loads of VX002 before booking it (standby travel site), things look still fairly open, I book. I also book another flight right after VX002, on UA SFO-SAN.
Then rush into terminals at YYZ,
board the flight to MDT, miss a bus to Harrisburg downtown by minutes, take then a taxi to go downtown catch the Greyhound,
Greyhound, arrival at Greyhound Washington DCA, taxi, self-checkin at the kiosk at DCA,
OMG!!!
Seat map of VX002 shows an A320..........................
Went quickly to the counter,
it's still a system glitch not updated yet, it IS the A321.
PHEW!!!
Arrival at the gate, kindly asking for a window, kindly offered a window, 32A. Nice!!!
Boarding went well and evenly,
Nice seat at 32A with nobody (seemlingly) in the middle seat...
Looking at the A321neo from outside, it doesn't look that much different from a regular A321...
From an in-flight perspective, it doesn't feel much different from a regular A321, noise-wise or anything-wise...
Speaking to the friendly in-charge (crew), N922VA went to MIA for a couple of week to complete some IFE installations after delivery, before entering service... He was lucky enough to be part of the delivery flight from XFW.
Intertainment system looks very well defined,
first time of my life I could use a zoom-in zoom-out touch-screen feature on the flight-map.
Arrival at SFO,
boarding to SAN, spent a few hours at SAN waiting for an early flight back to Canada on (today) 14th June, and here we go everything is over already.......................... Now looking for a few hours sleep,.... in a real bed finally...
lol.
Next step should be the B737MAX8 with Air Canada, planned for October
I also probably got the very first published picture of an A321neo's shade taking off, taken from the cabin...?......
