"With LEVEL's launch just weeks way, the IAG International Airlines Group has touted Rome Fiumicino and Paris Orly as potential future bases for its nascent longhaul budget carrier.
The airline conglomerate's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Willie Walsh said during a 1Q17 results call the Roman and Parisian gateways were among the "more interesting" potential LEVEL bases while ruling out Madrid Barajas and any other Spanish airports. With the added network coverage, he said he expects LEVEL's fleet to grow to up to five aircraft in 2018.
"We are looking for additional aircraft for the first stage of 2018," he was quoted by Spain's Agencia EFE. "Two or maybe three more planes and the launch of at least one new European base."
LEVEL will roll out flights from June 1 onwards using a pair of A330-200s to serve each of Los Angeles Int'l, Oakland, Punta Cana, and Buenos Aires Ezeiza from its Barcelona El Prat main base. Walsh said that so far, LEVEL has seen "exceptional" sales of about 120,000 tickets."
