I suppose Airbus wants to clear out the A320neo backlog first, which have been sitting in storage much longer.

My guess is not the will but the engines at hand..... The lowest A321neo MSN waiting for engines are MSN7428 and 7501, once intended for Qatar. The next lowest is MSN7530 for China Southern Airlines. Those frames have been around for a while. I would assume we talk here about engine shortage of the higher thrust engines, rather than a will to clear out A320neo first. The two intended Qatar frames can also of course not have found a new home.

MSN 7428 is NTU (Not Taken Up) and without customer, while MSN 7501 production slot was axed and never built.
MSN 7530 has been seen with engines several times, but CAAC has not certified the A321neo yet. China Southern aircraft are not about engine shortage, but about bureaucratic issues holding up certification.

Rear fuselage for msn7428 was seen at XFW on 29 May 2017 with new msn7839.
On the same day and location rear fuselage msn7501 was seen with new msn7881.

As MSN 7501 was never built, I assumed its parts had been used elsewhere. Good to see it confirmed.

I suppose Airbus wants to clear out the A320neo backlog first, which have been sitting in storage much longer. From a financial angle, Airbus would like to clear out the most expensive aircraft (= A321neo) first, but I am sure customer service prevails. Apart from frames that cannot be delivered yet (whatever the reason), Airbus must be trying to deliver the most delayed aircraft first, assuming the customer so wishes.

Once more - I am sure AB wants to get out ALL that is physically possible. We do know that the biggest culprit of delays were the engines - from both manufacturers. I would not be surprised if the more powerful engines had other problems to solve..... i.e. the delays
OK - forget the CAAC - it is a paper only symbolic war - it will be solved for sure shortly.
