The serious problems discussed in this thread probably explain why EK has not yet selected an engine to power the 20 + 16 frames it has ordered this year. It was widely believed that EK was dissatisfied by the Trent 900 performance, while its concerns are probably engine reliability and durability.

It was widely believed that EK was dissatisfied by the Trent 900 performance, while its concerns are probably engine reliability and durability. A Rolls spokesperson confirmed to me at the 100th A380 delivery to Emirates there had been a few quality and performance issues, but that they had been dealt with. In the 2017 technical issues review there are a few R-R issues, but unconfirmed if they are turbine blades.

Some up to date information on RR engine problems affecting A380s
Quote - "Trent 900 Issues
Issues with the Trent 900 engine for the Airbus A380 are linked to thermal erosion in high-pressure turbine blades, for which a new design was introduced in early 2017. In addition, a further re-design has been scheduled for 2020 that should fully solve durability issues and return those engines to originally specified inspection limits. As a result, some A380 operators are experiencing higher than anticipated inspections and maintenance costs."

If EK should finally cancel their A380 reorder due to the engine troubles the entire program is in hot water. Hope they can find some agreement now.
