I am amazed that they performed a first engine run with open cowlings. I don't think this is standard practice.

The failure was uncontained because the cowlings has been left open, and the frame was seriously damaged.

I did not know about that incident, I was thinking of tick over speeds for the engine and engineers just checking under the cowlings ! I guess when they run it up to higher power the cowlings should be shut !
