Not sure how reliable it is, but here is one explanation: Additional cabin work was required, and Malta can provide the quick fix slot.
These maybe small problems that VS discovered on MSN274, while doing the week long training and testing flights in Glasgow. The new Upper class always prove challenging, every single time.

When I was in Glasgow last week I saw something that looked like an A350 for Virgin take off in the distance. I said to myself that can't be right, they only have 1 A350. Turns out that it was true. I had no idea it was there for training.
