Interesting development! Sad to see Bombardier moving to exit the aerospace business but at least the thing will still be made in Canada under Viking Air.

The sale of the Q400 programme to the Longview group deserves some comments.
1 - ATR's only competitor is now a much smaller group. I don't think Longview/Viking can throw up a credible challenge in the long term. Is the turboprop market set for a monopolistic situation ?
2 - Has ATR any incentive left to invest in a new programme ? I believe they should dissuade new entrants by announcing a new programme, even if it's a slow-running one.
3 - BBD seems set to focus on business jets. Don't expect any CRJ improvement, unless BBD finds a buyer.

Adding to the discussion/comments, this sale includes the now out of production Dash8 100, 200 and 300. Given Viking has been able to bring the Twin Otter back, I wonder if it'll make sense to bring back the 200 and 300s.
Certainly in Australia, there are a number of Dash 8 200s and 300s that'll need replacing (For QantasLink the Dash8 200 is the only aircraft they have that can fly to Lord Howe Island) and REX has a sizeable fleet of 34 seat Saab340s (of which they appear to be getting every second hand airframe they can get).
The Dash8 300 is fairly comparable size wise to the ATR42 but the ATR is around 10-15 seats bigger than a Dash8 200 or a SAAB 340 which signifies a capacity increase of at least 25% (of course if the operating costs of the ATR is not much higher, then it wouldn't be too much of a problem to go for the larger ATR42). Therefore I wonder if there's enough demand given the costs to justify updating and producing the 200 and/or 300 again.

We may need to lock this too since BBD sold it We may close the thread, but we'll have to open a new one since the programme lives on with a new owner. Future upgrades are already being touted to keep buyer interest in the type.
