I am opening this thread to discuss Snecma/Safran's Silvercrest business jet engine. That engine uses an extremely innovative architecture. The promise is an efficient and low-cost powerplant delivering 9 000 to 12 000 pounds of thrust.
The project initially attracted two major customers, Dassault and Textron Aviation, both of which selected it to power a brand new business jet offering. Then the Silvercrest project met with serious compressor issues and was delayed. Dassault gave up, canceled its project and recently settled its dispute with Safran.
French online newspaper 'La Tribune' now reports that Safran claims that the project is back on track after resolving its technical problems. Safran aircraft engines' CEO Olivier Andriès contends his company will deliver the engine on time with the required performance.
Most importantly, Netjets - the launch customer for the Citation Hemisphere (the aircraft powered by the Silvercrest) - just announced it is taking a purchase option for 150 copies. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in H2 2019.
I am slightly surprised by such confidence so soon after the programme apparently sank into a hole, but I wish them success !
