Flew D-AIMA FRA-SIN on Wednesday. Great flight, but unfortunately I didn't get to try the new Lufthansa business class, as this one hasn't been upgraded yet. However, while lokking nice and clean from distance, I assume and hope it will get a new paint job when going in for cabin refurbishment as almost all the rivets are now visible when boarding the aircraft, so 5 year of flying is now visible on the paint

...meanwhile, over the river on the other side of Hamburg, D-AIMA has landed. Cabin refurbishment or to see her two sisters delivered? :-)

I asked Lufthansa Technik this week what is the plan, now that a few A380 routes have been dropped this winter. This was the reply:
'Dear Richard, the first question would be one our colleagues from Lufthansa could answer. However, we noticed that they just announced that from now on the route Hongkong - Frankfurt will be served by the A380 on a daily basis (replacing the Boeing 747-8 service). So no need to worry ;-) As for the question about maintenance: Yes indeed, the first heavy check will be due soon. The door-modification for the three affected A380 is planned for this winter. Best regards, your Lufthansa Technik Twitter Team'.
On a follow on question LT confirmed AIMA is the first to get the heavy check:
'Dear Richard, completely correct - it'll be Mike Alpha and an IL-Check. So far we haven't got a final date yet but it should start this winter. Best regards!'
In a way I find it surprising that the exact date isn't set yet. In a report on Emirates MRO in ArabianBusiness this week they say to know exactely which aircraft will be in for maintenance. Keep an eye on AIMA, then we'll know.

AIMA arrived in Manila early Sunday morning local time. Most likely this means she has gone into her 6-year check at Lufthansa Technik, as announced by them in October. She did her last service on Dec 4 from Shanghai.

I saw this pic today on Twitter. Empty cabin could be of AIMA. Same maker posted pics of a Qantas A380 and a door early December. This could be the same A380, but maybe we see the Lufthansa one here: t.co/O4QatrHb45
