a380.boards.net/post/137892/thread A litl misleading with only the link, it is in fact all about an hypothetically-wished B777XF. These are nice words to Boeing, but. Is it hopeful to get a non-yet-launched B777XF by 2025 only? Let's try to make the -9 into the air first, deliver it, mature it, then focus on the -8, and then maybe a freighter. Unless Boeing tries to make the freighter before the -8?

Higher OEW same MTOW should squeeze the possibility to provide a decent payload. The decrease in tankage needed for the same distance should not be able to weight up, because freighters fly shorter distances and tank less fuel anyway. At least 15 t higher OEW, perhaps 10 t decreased tankage, similar MTOW, higher priced.

Here is a duplicate of my latest post in the 'QR Airways 77X' thread.
Boeing talking about a possible 778 deferment probably means the same for a possible 778-based freighter. QR must have been pushing Boeing without much success.
As Boeing still needs 777F (and 77W) sales to keep the line humming through 779 delays, I don't think it would be wise to launch a freighter now.

Mjoelnir's analysis above is correct, but it is based on initial data. With time, the 77F will be penalised by lack of economies of scale, while the 778 MTOW will grow, its price will go down, PIPS may be made available. At some point in the future, Boeing may move from the 77F to newer technology.

why does QR need their freighters to be less than 10 years old??? Especially given how freighters usually have services lives approaching 30 or more years...

How do you expect the MTOW of the 777-8 to grow? Who knows, I just expect the aircraft to have some performance margins. The 778 doesn't exist yet, and I don't know which is the limiting feature. A paper increase might be offered based on test results, or for instance if the MLG is the limit, then some reinforcement may be engineered ...

There is a reason for that bigger frames are adding additional MLG.
