I have seen some speculation that possibly a piece of tyre may have gone thru the upper wing skin as well ?

I asked the ATSB if they were investigating this incident, as I haven't been able to find any details on their website. I just got a reply: 'we are chasing up Emirates for details'. Interesting. I thought it is up to the authorities to do their own unbiased investigation.

I thought it is up to the authorities to do their own unbiased investigation. Any investigation starts with questions or interviews. In this case, they are probably trying to assess the incident to determine whether or not it is worth investigating.

I thought it is up to the authorities to do their own unbiased investigation. ATSB today replied to my previous question: they aren't investigating the incident and are referring to Emirates for further details.
