Isn't the EIS before 2023? Yes 2 1/2 - 3 years seems a bit long even for a new conversion, may be 2023 is delivery of the third one ? IAI has to convert one and certify it. Certification takes time.

The ERF A321 P2F prototype took 16 months from start to delivery, so I was thinking that the B777 P2F should be doable in 2 years ?

Been doing some nosing around, GECAS ferried B777-300 MSN 32789 ex A6-EBB to TLV on 3-4th June 2020 to be the prototype for IAI, but it was moved to SBD on 6th August 2020 !
Is the conversion being done in SBD ? or I wonder if there was a problem with this frame ?

The needed changes for the 777-300ER are extensive. The main floor has to be completely replaced for example. The carbon fiber beams of the passenger version will not carry the weight.

Maybe heavy maintenance needs to be done at SBD first before ferrying to TLV for the conversion?

Maybe heavy maintenance needs to be done at SBD first before ferrying to TLV for the conversion? Or maybe the conversion will be done in Mexico? That's not too far from SBD

That's not too far from SBD I mean they could, but I doubt IAI would really do their prototyping conversion in a contracting MRO (Mexicana hanger in MEX) though, especially for this future crown jewel project given most of their engineering is back in Israel.

As I said ^^^^^^^ the frame due to be the prototype was sent to TLV by GECAS stayed there for a few months then went to SBD ! So was it rejected ?

As I said ^^^^^^^ the frame due to be the prototype was sent to TLV by GECAS stayed there for a few months then went to SBD ! So was it rejected ? Don't think so. GECAS is ultimately the owner of the frame and the 77WERSF program will carry on irrespective of if they actually found the customer for the first frame (the prototype) or not given the huge market outlook. Although I believe they do have a launch customer in Kalitta Air. The first delivery isn't due until 2023 so IAI still has some wiggle room to figure stuff out before they actually started cutting the cargo door and replacing the floor beams. Also this conversion is not supported by Boeing so IAI does have to do some reverse engineering both structurally and electronically. www.flightglobal.com/airframers/kalitta-to-be-launch-operator-of-777-300ersf-converted-freighter/140852.article
