There will be newer A380s available second hand soon. Like many "standard built" EK frames. It depends what you consider 'soon'. EK can be expected to begin to retire A380s no sooner than 2020 (DORIC's leases are for twelve years). I see all the earliest frames being disassembled for parts most likely. Well, that Dr Peters hasn't yet made that decision tends to show that there are indeed some potential takers. I could also see Airbus buying the aircraft at scrap price from Dr Peters, thus keeping full control of the spare prices, and offering the aircraft on the second-hand market with an optional refurbishment service. It has just been refurbished to as new condition, before being handed back to Dr Peters !

But this could be just a part of the original contract requirements without indicating some imminent follow-on lease. The very early frames, like MSN003, are exots as Airbus has improved the A380 quite a bit. This is exactly why SIA is keeping it's 14 youngest ones but rolling over the oldest five.

Yes that was what I meant, they had to be refurbished before return.

Yes that was what I meant, they had to be refurbished before return. If the owner did not expect the aircraft to fly again, wouldn't he have released SQ from its refurbishment obligations against a lump sum - a deal that would have been advantageous to both parties ? I am sure Dr Peters has serious hopes of striking a deal with some airline.

Engines are deinstalled for Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce is leasing the engines until Mai 2019. Quite possibly, the aircraft is not going to fly in the next few months ...
