I also assume this aircraft is ordered by a leasing company? Maybe, but a leasing company would have asked Airbus to wait for painting until a new operator has been identified.

Since Ernest does not have any orders direct from Airbus, this is your typical example of a leasing company that did not ask Airbus to delay painting.

But Airbus still went ahead and painted it even they knew what the airline situation is. I guess Airbus intends to cancel the sales agreement for breach of contract, while keeping whatever payments have already been made. At least, that's what they did in the Skymark A380 case. Such a legal strategy would imply a full execution of the contract on their part - painting included. Q. Did the Skymark A380s get fully painted ? Or just the tails ?

Just the tails of the first two (162 & 167) and the engine cowlings on the first. EDIT: The third was never built of course.
