Lufthansa has decided to order 5 additional A350-900 and 5 B787-9. The 787 are former NTU and will be delivered 2022. The A350 will be delivered 2027-2028. They will have 45 of each.
Correction (thanks to ff): Total number of firm orders for Boeing 787-9s and Boeing 777-9s will be 45 aircraft (25+20). Firm orders for the A350-900 will be 45 aircraft

As LH already has 43 firm orders for the A350 does the total of 45 mean 2 firm ordered today and three options? Lufthansa Newsroom

Really glad not just me can't do 43+5=45. ( bmw801 It's not 45 of each, it's 20 B779 + 25 B789. A bit misleading here.)

Really glad not just me can't do 43+5=45. Maybe they also have cancelled 3?

Really glad not just me can't do 43+5=45. Maybe they also have cancelled 3? Or, could those three German government frames came from the original Lufthansa order?
I think that's more logical, isn't it?

As the old joke says, all you need to fly a plane is a man and a dog - the dog is there to make sure he is awake!
Back to the serious bit, Cathay Pacific is well known for continue using 4-people crew on long haul flights instead of 3-people as most of the airlines do. This is well documented, and they are very proud of doing that especially for pilot training for young trainee from Hong Kong locally.
This new approach looks like from one extreme to another, breaking the tradition of Cathay, very interesting.

Found this online, explains the maths......I think..... Reuters - "But Airbus data released on Monday showed that the German airline had also simultaneously cancelled three previous A350 orders, resulting in a net addition of two A350 jets. An Airbus spokesman confirmed the mixture of cancellations and orders."
