If they are serious about the expected upturn in cargo aircraft demand they should wait a little longer before closing the line forever. I'd say the 747-8 freigther can exist for some years to come. Like the A380: you need to bridge the weak demand for some years. Closing those lines means losing all the investment. Waiting will finally create income.

Waiting will finally create income. One difference is that Boeing also has the 777F on offer. No doubt that type would collect any potential 748F order.

What really is dangerous for the 747 is the softening demand for the 777. If Boeing offers -let's say- 777 freighters at a rebate to keep the line busy that might kill the 747.

I think Boeing is aware of the consequences of offering the 777 at a huge discount : the 748I is dead, only freighter versions have a fighting chance of gathering some more orders. The 77F may be less deeply discounted than the 77W to preserve the 748.

Any chance that Boeing further slow the production rate for 777 to bridge the 777-X ?

Boeing already has been slowing the 777 FAL, but yes, many believe Boeing will have to slow it even more I saw the news about reducing production rate but they weren't close to be so slow that they won't be profitable anymore so I wasn't so sure about why all the discount thing must come in.
