Note that there is also one for ABC on the flightline but these frames are not recorded as orders, presumably due to the fact that Boeing are retaining ownership of the frames operated by ABC. The previous ABC frames turned up as an order when the aircraft was delivered. Even owned by Boeing, its ownership is in some Boeing financial company and not Boeing Commercial Airplanes

Those ABC and Silk Way jets are leased from Boeing Capital Corporation. For some reason they can only be added to the order book after delivery.

Seems strange to me that Boeing is not recording them as orders until after delivery. I think some customers picking up already-built freighters have no reason to commit to a purchase earlier than delivery. Thus, if they voice dissatifaction and threaten not to buy, they are extremely credible and probably clinch additional concessions from Boeing.

This is how Boeing reports the situation with 747-8 production. Some carefully chosen words ;
“We have a number of completed aircraft in inventory as well as unsold production positions and we remain focused on obtaining additional orders and implementing cost-reduction efforts,”
“If we are unable to obtain sufficient orders in 2016 and/or market, production and other risks cannot be mitigated, the programme could face an additional reach-forward loss that may be material,”

According to planespotters Silk Way has a HUGE fleet of one and only one plane:
4K-SW888 29730 / 1203 Boeing 747-4R7F Cargo 28. Sep 2011 17.0 Years
than there is their affiliate with 4 planes:
29732 1231 Boeing 747-4R7F 4K-SW008 Silk Way West Airlines Cargo 31. Jul 2012 Active LX-PCV 44444 1493 Boeing 747-83QF VQ-BVB Silk Way West Airlines Cargo 22. Aug 2014 Active N973BA lsf GECAS 44937 1496 Boeing 747-83QF VQ-BVC Silk Way West Airlines Cargo 28. Aug 2014 Active N50281 lsf GECAS 60120 1521 Boeing 747-83QF VQ-BWY Silk Way West Airlines Cargo 14. Aug 2015 Active
So do we believe they will save the 747-8 production ? I do not !
Air Bridge Cargo is of course much bigger operator with 17x 747 (9x400 + 8x8F), but with the economical problems in Russia and pressure on Cargo operation as the whole ?
The amount of belly cargo is increasing, the organization and speed of container traffic is also improving with time, the reliability of container traffic and VHF tracking of each container in progress as of last years improves its reliability and decreases the reloading time in ports for days (!) and of course the cost is many orders of magnitude somewhere else. And consider that container from EU port towards East Coast USA takes 5 days only - and the ships go several times a day each direction - so those haul most of the shipments around the globe. The AirCargo is minor few 0,00001% of the whole shipping.
So the amount of HUGE cargo planes is not probable to go significantly up.
If we consider the huge shipping air operation i.e. DHL, FedEx, UPS, TNT, most of their planes are much smaller. Looking at the traffic at some of their hubs we see that A310, 767 are the biggest ones. We see a lot of ATRs, 737, 757, "JUMBOLINOS", but very few bigger ones.
So.....

Comprehensive updates posted on A-net, although not added to Blogspot as yet.
A few 'highlights' ;
L/N 1534 , a freighter for Cargolux has now entered Final Assembly
The three latest frames to roll out from Final Assembly ( L/N 1528-1530 ) are all being stored temporarily, unpainted and without engines
L/N 1544 has been added to the 'firing order' ( 1540-1543 have not ) and allocated to USAF. I guess this will be for the Commander-in chief. Perhaps the military feel they need to prepare for Donald Trump !!
