We have heard conflicting statements from CX on this issue. This one is from the COO ... Are there divergences inside CX, or is it posturing related to an ongoing negociatiation ? The text is behind a pay wall. Has anybody on this forum been able to actually read it ?

Ivan Chu, CX's present COO, is taking over from Slosar, becoming CX's CEO in early 2014. I guess he already knew it when he made his comments on Cathay's fleet planning and his statement that presently no VLA is needed in the fleet. www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-08-16/cathay-names-chu-chief-executive-as-slosar-to-become-chairman.htmlI have the feeling that the new leader is convinced that the present economic environment requires more caution and cost-cutting than heavy investmant. So, in the short term, CX should focus on restoring profitability. Fleet issues may take a back seat for a while.

Thank you, Addasih. These statements from EK's top commercial officer are interesting both in a short term and longer term view. In the short term, EK orders at the Dubai airshow are confirmed. Hopefully, part of them will be A380 orders. In a longer perspective, EK opening new routes to/from the USA may demonstrate the A380 economics and put pressure on American carriers ...

I won't happen. Americans want many departure times, right after they arrive at an airport. Not just 4 or 5 a day with hundreds of passengers waiting for departure.
